Madrid, Spain, 28 May, 2013: Amadeus, a leading technology partner for the global travel industry, has ’published its 2012 Corporate Sustainability Report reviewing the company’s business and performance in 2012 from a sustainability perspective. The document, which has been granted the Application level A+ by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), analyses the economic, environmental and social impacts of Amadeus’ business, as well as its contribution to help meeting sustainability objectives.
“We keep sustainability at the forefront of our thinking in every aspect of our activities. We operate in the travel and tourism industry, which represents 9% of global GDP and employment worldwide. Connecting the complex ecosystem of sellers and buyers of travel, Amadeus is in a privileged position to contribute to sustainability, leveraging the underlying technology capabilities, expertise and stakeholder relations”, says Tomás López Fernebrand, Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, Amadeus.
A continuous commitment in R&D and the company’s multi-culturalism are critical for Amadeus sustainability strategy. Amadeus’ contribution to travel industry sustainability is closely linked to its R&D activities – the increased efficiencies that come with the company’s innovative solutions are often combined with reduced energy and resource consumption, as shown by airlines’ improved productivity, operational efficiencies and fuel consumption through the Amadeus Altéa Passenger Services Solution. Since 2004, Amadeus has invested around 2.4 billion EUR in R&D. In 2012, 14 percent of the company’s revenues were invested in R&D to make sure Amadeus’ solutions deliver efficiencies and continue to shape the future of travel.
Together with Amadeus’ level of R&D investment, “our people’s competencies, skills and attitudes and our company’s robust and sustainable business model are clear pillars for Amadeus”, comments Svend Leirvaag, Vice President, Industry Affairs, Amadeus. With over 11,000 people from 110 countries and speaking 53 languages, multiculturalism and diversity make Amadeus a culturally rich company.
Amadeus has developed extensive projects within both the Corporate Citizenship (138 initiatives in 45 countries) and the Environmental Sustainability global framework. These include initiatives such as the Amadeus’ 25th anniversary celebration through varied community projects led by the company’s network of volunteers worldwide. From the environmental point of view, the Amadeus data center in Erding (near Munich) renewed its “energy-efficiency enterprise” certification issued by the international organization TÜV SÜD.
