Stuttgart becomes the first airport in Germany to embrace Amadeus’ cloud computing technology for passenger services
More than 200 check-in counters and gates, as well as 30 self-service kiosks are transitioning to Amadeus for a smoother check-in experience
As the industry continues to rethink travel and prepare for the time when COVID-19 travel restrictions are lifted, Stuttgart Airport has underlined its commitment to delivering an improved passenger experience with new technology developed by Amadeus.
The airport completed a successful migration to theAmadeus Airport Cloud Use Service (ACUS) platform during the pandemic, with more than 200 check-in counters and gates, as well as 30 new self-service kiosks for a smoother check-in experience. Thanks to this technology, the migration was handled largely remotely, with only a skeleton team of engineers needed on-site at the terminal.
The major IT modernization sees Stuttgart increase passenger self-service options with the installation of 30 self-service check-in kiosks from ICM Airport Technics, an Amadeus company, as well as introducing self-boarding gates and Amadeus’ innovative technology for payments to help passengers easily pay for additional services like excess baggage allowance or seat upgrades, using contactless payment methods during the check-in process.
Dirk Spengler, Director of Infrastructure & CIO, Stuttgart Airport, commented: “Stuttgart Airport is an essential industrial and business hub for the entire region, and we’re committed to delivering a pleasant passenger experience. The modern and reliable IT system from Amadeus is for us a major success factor for a smooth check-in process now and in the future. We especially appreciate that the new IT solution by Amadeus saves energy and will contribute to our sustainability efforts at Stuttgart Airport .”
Yannick Beunardeau, Vice President Airport IT, EMEA, Amadeus, commented: “Stuttgart Airport is taking the lead in Germany to apply an innovative approach from check-in to boarding, replacing older models and infrastructure with minimal disruption. Airports are facing numerous challenges today, including fluctuating passenger volumes and changes in demand, and our aim is to support Stuttgart Airport to deliver a more customized and flexible experience for check-in, payments and boarding. We’re pleased to become the technology partner supporting Stuttgart Airport and their team during these unprecedented times.”
