Against the backdrop of another challenging year, with the impact of the pandemic continuing to affect the travel industry, Amadeus employees, as always, found meaning and grounding in giving back. In 2021, Amadeus contributed to the recovery of the travel industry by supporting our local communities, fostering socio-economic growth, and helping to protect our natural habitats.
Overall, Amadeus employees around the world dedicated a total of 34,808 hours to respond to their communities’ needs. We trained 16,730 people to prepare them for careers in tourism and supported 300 organizations in the process. In addition, we planted over 16,000 trees in the Amazon Forest to help local indigenous communities while contributing to protect our biodiversity. Globally, Amadeus invested more than 2.28 million euros to support our communities, and positively impacted 1.4 million beneficiaries from all over the world. That’s something we are proud of!
That said, there’s always more to be done, and that’s why I’m excited to share our three CSR pillars for the road ahead, which are centered around people, partnerships with positive impact, and innovation with a social purpose.
In 2022, we will continue to strengthen our response towards building a more responsible, inclusive, and sustainable travel and tourism industry worldwide through our three flagship programs:
1. Social Innovation Powers Good: We have a few exciting projects in the works to encourage innovations that have a social purpose or that may help solve current social and environmental challenges. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements on this topic coming soon.
2. Powering Good with Partners: We’re working hard to continue developing partnerships that promote an inclusive and sustainable transformation of the travel ecosystem. We do this by supporting Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with ourTravel4Impact network , and by upskilling industry professionals with our Skills to Empower Good program.
3. Empowering Communities: Finally, our employees are the heart and soul of everything we achieve as a company. We will continue to support them around the world as they help rebuild and renew their local communities and natural habitats through ourGreen is the New Blue grassroots movement, with new actions coming up in June, and through our Amadeus Volunteer Day campaign, in October.
It's easy for companies to talk about their social and environmental footprint, but it’s another thing entirely to rally thousands of employees spread across five continents to really make a difference. In 2021, our accomplishments showed that we’re a step closer to bringing our people and our technology together to promote a more responsible, inclusive, and sustainable travel and tourism industry.
At the end of the day, enhancing our positive impact wouldn’t be possible without our employees’ enthusiasm, talent, and commitment. No matter what we do, they are the pillars of our success. I’m confident that through 2022, we will make even greater strides, and will continue bringing about positive change in our local communities around the world.
