Disability is part of the human experience. Over the course of our lives, many of us will face a temporary or permanent disability — whether through age, illness, or accident. In fact, 1.3 billion people globally, or 16% of the world’s population, live with a disability. By 2050, more than 20% of the global population will be over the age of 65. These are not distant statistics; they are a reflection of our families, our colleagues, and our communities.

For me, disability inclusion is deeply personal. About 15 years ago, I was diagnosed with a visual impairment caused by a degenerative genetic disease. If you met me in a corridor, you might not notice anything different about me — except perhaps the large font on my phone or the way I take photos of signs to read them later. Sometimes, I even pass by people I know without recognizing them.

This experience taught me something profound: most disabilities are not visible, and misunderstanding often comes from assumptions. When someone doesn’t greet you back or seems distracted, it’s easy to judge. But what if, instead of judgment, we choose empathy? What if we ask, “Is everything okay?” or “Can I help?” That simple shift can change someone’s day — and, ultimately, our culture.

This is why we created ENABLE, Amadeus’ Employee Resource Group for people with disabilities. ENABLE is a supportive community for employees with visible and non-visible disabilities, chronic illnesses, pain, and neurodiversity. Our mission is to empower, support, and promote an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive, both personally and professionally.

Allyship is essential. ENABLE welcomes not only those with disabilities, but anyone who wants to support our accessibility journey. By raising awareness and challenging stigma, we can embrace disability as a natural part of human diversity — and drive meaningful change together.

Disability inclusion is part of Amadeus’ broader commitment to diversity and inclusion. We believe that innovation and progress are only possible when everyone is empowered to contribute. Our initiatives span the globe — from a long-standing disability program in France, to partnerships with NGOs in India, to digital accessibility efforts and immersive Empathy Lab sessions that help colleagues understand the realities faced by people with disabilities.

Amadeus also held a Global Disability Inclusion Week recently with a series of events and workshops across the company. These included expert panels on enterprise accessibility, sessions on neurodiversity in the workplace, and personal storytelling. These activities are part of our ongoing journey to build a more inclusive workplace and travel industry and raise awareness among employees.
