Travel is one of the world’s largest industries, representing nearly 10% of global GDP. The technology space serving the travel industry has a sizeable overall addressable market opportunity at around 89 billion euros*.
Against a backdrop of growth in both travel and technology, Amadeus recently hosted its Investor Day in London. It was an opportunity to outline our medium-term strategy for the company and showcase how Amadeus remains steadfast in our pursuit of making the experience of travel better for everyone, everywhere.
Alongside my executive committee, my message was one of optimism. The financial outlook for Amadeus is one of strong, sustainable growth, enabling us to continue to invest and innovate.
The three central themes of the day were clear:
As the leading global travel technology company, we work to connect our sector, building cohesive, end-to-end experiences across the entire journey. We think beyond existing structures to build an industry that works more effectively. We enable an open environment to deliver the best solutions for our customers. We put a strong focus on our strategic alliances with Microsoft, Accenture and IBM so we can make the most of the opportunities ahead.
We have always been future-focused, and we have industrialized the process of creation. We consistently invest in technology, with a clear roadmap ahead of what we are building with our customers. In 2023 we invested €1.1 billion, nearly a 13% increase from 2022. We continually look for the next groundbreaking idea that will shape our sector. When it comes toGen-AI ,we are committed to capturing the opportunities it brings while mitigating associated risks. We apply innovation to meet new needs, to solve real challenges, to identify opportunities that build better traveler experiences.
Travelers want smoother journeys. Whether it is airport or hotel check-in, passport control or payments, people want to be able to have frictionless experiences. We want travelers to have game-changing services at their fingertips; inspiring, and inspired choices, journeys without stress, experiences without fuss. Simplicity, every time. This is why we are focused on the entire traveler experience, including making travel a force for social and environmental good.
Travel is an industry where the only constant is change. It is resilient, it thrives on change, it continues to adapt. So, as we stand in the intersection of two exciting industries – travel and technology – I’m proud that our technology powers global travel. There is tremendous opportunity for growth, and potential to make travel a force for good.
As we look ahead and take the next steps on our journey, we are guided by our long-term vision. I’m confident thatour purpose, our financial strength, and our innovations will allow us to continue to invest in creating better connected, more sustainable, and traveler-centric ecosystem.
