Earlier this year, my colleague Sébastien Gibergues explored how scalable and efficient search capabilities were a vital component of the returning aviation sector. We recognize the integral role Search plays in the travel industry. That’s why last year we reinvested more than a quarter of our revenue in research and development specifically geared towards flight search. As the travel industry continues its journey towards renewal, we are excited to unveil the next iteration in Flight Search technology.
Taking advantage of two decades of research, we are adding the capabilities ofAmadeus Custom Searchto our Flight Search portfolio, thereby putting its advanced Search capabilities in the hands of digital travel players. Amadeus Custom Search offers industry-leading expertise in cache, pricing engine, machine learning, flight computation and streaming to perfectly fit the technology architecture of the customer. This boosts efficiency, in terms of response times, accuracy and competitiveness. Amadeus Custom Search can also power searches across multiple booking channels.
These capabilities have the potential to transform the sector. It is at the heart of our aspirations in flight search, where we are working to build a digital travel search engine addressing many of the challenges online travel agencies (OTAs) face as they seek to thrive in an accelerating world. The toolkit can be used by digital travel providers to create a unique search engine, giving them the components they need to capture more travelers, differentiate against competitors and increase market share. It places Amadeus’ experts at their disposal, where they are able to analyze the needs of customers, implement the right tools, functionalities and micro services and offer long-term optimization.
This will help our customers tackle the most complex use cases and offer the right content at the right price, hence capture underserved traveler demand. With Amadeus Custom Search, we are giving digital travel players the tools they need to build their unique search engine, custom-made exactly to their needs.
Bring it home
Amadeus Custom Search offers unlimited possibilities of customization – to the extent it can be hosted by Amadeus or by the customer. Under an insourced scenario, the search engine itself is hosted by the agency, but uses Amadeus components. In this configuration, the search technology components can offer travelers more relevant choices, but also ones that are profitable for travel sellers. For instance, using the cache, users can access to a vast set of possible itineraries, all with fare information.
Amadeus Custom Search can increase conversion rates by improving the traveler experience. For example, configuring and activating revalidation micro-service enables OTAs to ensure accuracy and therefore high bookability when it comes to traveler offers. The toolkit allows for the repricing of multiple itineraries at once with different points of sale, creating potential to upsell or add ancillaries.

Under the reverse scenario, Amadeus works hand in hand with the customer to build a unique search engine which will be hosted on our servers. We can even host modules a partner creates or develops themselves. In this arrangement, customers can place business rules on top of the cache or revalidation set-up, for example a proprietary mark-up or mark-down logic.
When a unique search engine is created alongside our experts, we can also offer control over how it might be orchestrated. For example, Amadeus can offer the ability to juggle between live default search, aggregation from different source or partial revalidation depending on the use case.
