Despite the difficult situation our industry is navigating, our partners in the travel industry remain engaged and committed to make NDC a reality.
Despite the difficult situation our industry is navigating, our partners in the travel industry remain engaged and committed to make NDC a reality. And we are very proud of what we’ve achieved together with our partners so far. NDC is an opportunity for the travel industry to benefit from the latest retailing capabilities: new, richer, more relevant content, and more tailored offerings. For years we’ve been working in close collaboration with industry players and IATA to unlock the potential of NDC as we are convinced that NDC can open a whole new world of opportunities for travel sellers.
NDC canhelp travel agencies deliver new, richer, and more relevant content in a simple and more personalized way – so travelers can get more information about what they are buying and receive more relevant offers based on their preferences. Among other benefits, it can help travel sellers boost operational efficiency through a simplified, intuitive graphical flow that helps to search, book, and manage content seamlessly.
In January 2021, we began to roll out NDC-sourced content globally in Amadeus Selling Platform Connect. Today, over 2,500 travel sellers in more than 40 markets around the world can already book airline content via NDC through the Amadeus Travel Platform. And our goal is to make NDC-sourced content available to all Amadeus travel sellers around the world during the course of this year.
Travel agents connected to the Amadeus Travel Platform can shop, book, pay and service all NDC-sourced offers made available by our airline partners, integrated alongside other travel content in one merged display for easy comparison. Most of the industry conversation around NDC has been with IATA affiliated agencies in mind, and this has left non-IATA travel agents wondering whether they can access and start benefitting from NDC-sourced content as well. We understand the need of travel sellers of all shapes and sizes to advance in retailing. That’s why - through the Amadeus Travel Platform - we are now offering two simple ways to access NDC-sourced content for those agents not yet accredited by IATA: IATA Go Lite and TIDS.
TheIATA TIDS (Travel Industry Designator Service) ID number gives agents and other intermediaries a simple code that allows their bookings to be recognized by industry suppliers. What’s more, since October 2020, TIDS has been free of charge.GoLite is a more recent accreditation version from IATA for small and medium agencies – based on an easy approval process. It’s created for agencies that want to issue tickets, but don’t require a cash facility through BSP. And as there is limited financial risk, financial requirements are minimal. GoLite allows non-IATA agencies to sell flights with already multiple (NDC) carriers worldwide without the need for financial securities or annual financial reviews. Of course, these two solutions are specific to IATA accreditation and identification - there may be other options for non-IATA agencies to access NDC via partners which are still to be explored as the NDC standard evolves.
Which of these two solutions makes most sense will depend on the needs of the travel agent. For example, those that would like to only be able to access NDC content of for example Singapore Airlines, can request a TIDS number and they will be able to view the content for free. If they would also like to issue and manage their own NDC based tickets, then IATA GoLite would the most relevant solution (subject to obtaining ticketing rights from the airline).
By adopting NDC, agents of any size and any kind, IATA and non-IATA, can significantly improve customer service, increase efficiency and gain an edge in the market. Ultimately, NDC lets travel agents get ready for the future of travel retailing while improving their servicing capability, more crucial now than ever and by enabling a better shopping experience for travelers.
