We’re always looking to find new ways to put our technology and our people’s talent to the service of local communities around the world.
To build a more responsible, inclusive, and sustainable travel and tourism industry for all we need to work collectively. The core engine behind our positive impact is our determination to try and make a real difference, in partnership with our customers, employees, industry partners as well as educational institutions.
So, how did we do in 2022? Here are just some highlights from the year that make me feel particularly proud.
Amadeus’ global positive impact at a glance
Supporting SMEs: the Travel4Impact Network
In 2022, Amadeus launched the second edition of theTravel4Impact Network with IE University. Travel4Impact is a collaborative project designed to help small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which focus on strengtheningdigitalization and sustainabilityas part of their value proposition. Our goal is to help their businesses to prosper and amplify their positive impact for the good of the entire travel industry. Since its launch, 45 SMEs have benefited from the training, mentoring, and networking opportunities provided by Travel4Impact. You can learn more about the SMEs we supportedhere .
Fostering global partnerships with impact
Green is the New Blue is a grassroots movement through which our employees help rebuild and renew local communities and natural habitats. As an organization, we support this further by signing with partners who share our ambition to have a positive social and environmental impact.
As part of this year’sGreen is the New Bluecampaign, Amadeus signed a global partnership withPlastic Bankto fund the collection ofover 100,000 kilograms of plasticfrom coastal areas to stop ocean plastic. We alsoincreased our commitment with Saving the Amazon, reachingover 20,000 treesplanted in the #AmadeusForest.
Empowering people to drive change
Amadeus’ Green is the New Blue movement was born in 2019, and it has become an enabler of social and environmental change. This year, almost10,000 employeesaround the world participated in this initiative by sharing their ideas and projects on how to become greener and more sustainable.
In addition, more than2,800 Amadeus employeesworked actively to support their local communities and natural habitats through ourAmadeus Volunteer Dayactivities. Through this initiative, each year we invite our employees to come together and contribute time to working towards the UN’sSustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by organizing activities with local partners to drive positive change in the communities where we live and work.
Enabling impactful innovation through our global sustainability hackathon
Sustainability in travel was the focus ofAmadeus’ worldwide hackathon. More than600 studentsparticipated to develop ideas and applications for a more sustainable travel experience. Participants took part in challenges related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), carbon offsetting, green hotels, and other sustainability topics.
Looking forward to making an even bigger difference in 2023
I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished in 2022, but we’re not done yet. We have lots of great ideas and plans brewing for 2023, and I can’t wait to see what our people, our technology and our global network of partners will be able to accomplish next. We’re focused on maximizing the positive impact that travel and tourism can bring to local communities and destinations around the world. I truly believe that travel can drive change in this world, and I know that if we keep working together in this way, we will be able to accomplish great things.
