At Amadeus, we approach our business and technology a lot like surfers looking for the next wave: whether it’s sunny or stormy, our eyes are always fixed on the horizon, anticipating changes in the environment that surrounds us. Much like the ocean, the travel industry and the world of technology is always moving. To stay ahead of the curve—or to catch that next wave—we must be constantly evolving with the tides of change.
So far, this strategy has served us well. Despite stormy conditions over the last couple years, we’ve caught some great waves.
Amidst a global pandemic, we developed a solution to enable travel companies to digitalize and automate traveler identity documents, including documents required for travel such a proof of vaccination and COVID-19 test results. Our technology verified more than 22 million documents: a great achievement that helped funnel travelers safely and more quickly to their final destinations.
We are deploying our biometric technology across four continents, examples spanning from Narita, Heathrow and Houston, and results are encouraging. A major airport like
Fort Lauderdale has sped up boarding time by 75%, reaching an average boarding time of two seconds per passenger.
Everyone knows that we’re a trusted source for airline distribution and IT solutions, but what about the work we do with hotels? Travel agents now have access to more than one million bookable hotels in the Amadeus Travel Platform, and more than 52,000 hotels are using our IT solutions around the world.
Our vision for the future
Ever since Amadeus was founded in 1987, one thing has stayed the same: travelers are always looking for the best offers, and the best experience to and at their final destination, and travel sellers want to get their offer in front of the most customers as possible.
Building effortless, frictionless and valuable experiences for the traveler requires a shift towards a more transversal mindset – airlines, airports, hotels, travel sellers and other stakeholders across the ecosystem need to work together more closely.
At the core of our technology, our long-term vision is to build a single, cloud-based platform that will orchestrate all content, from a multitude of sources, and deliver it to all different sales channels, while also onboarding new partners to foster collaborative innovation across the ecosystem.
This means our airlines, travel sellers, corporations, airports, hotels and payments businesses will all run on one unified platform, helping increase our agility, responsiveness and ability to customize our technology offer based on our customers’ needs.
To deliver on our vision, a big focus for Amadeus this past year has been our commitment to the Cloud. Our migration to Microsoft Azure is one of the most ambitious technological feats we’ve embarked on in the last 35 years, and we are confident that it will pave the way for a new generation of travel innovation.
Azure cloud technology revolutionizes our software development cycles, data capabilities and brings us closer to our customers. It is a future-proof infrastructure and prioritizes collaboration with one of the world’s most trusted technology companies.
Successes to celebrate in 2022
From looking to the future to the here and now – we have had some big deals in this year and have grown our network of customers and partners to expand the entire travel ecosystem. Here are some of the big wins we’re celebrating in 2022.
We continue to work with the best
Amadeus renewed or extended distribution agreements with a large number of airlines, from full service carriers such as Emirates and Lufthansa Group , to low cost carriers such as Flyr and Ryanair - all contributing to a marketplace of transparency and choice for the traveler.
The adoption of NDC is getting stronger and stronger. With Finnair and Iberia going live this autumn, followed by United Airlines and the gradual roll-out for Lufthansa Group airlines starting now in December, we are excited to have 17 airlines* live in production in the Amadeus Travel Platform NDC-enabled solutions – and more to come soon. Meaning that NDC offers are available for Amadeus travel sellers to shop, book, pay and service. All in all, access to NDC-sourced content through Amadeus Selling Platform is available in almost 130 markets, with more than 24,000 travel agents activated.
*Airlines live: Austrian Airlines, Brussel Airlines, Lufthansa, Swiss, Air Dolomiti, Eurowings Discover, United, Finnair, Iberia, Air France, American Airlines, Avianca & TACA, KLM, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines.
We expanded our relationship with ATPI – a world leading travel management and events company servicing the corporate, shipping, energy, offshore and sports sectors - to become ATPI’s primary global technology partner. The multi-year deal will see ATPI add an additional 15 countries to Amadeus Selling Platform Connect. This will provide ATPI’s global offices access to the broadest selection of travel content, including full-service and low-cost carriers, hotels, and ground transportation providers from around the world.
