Our industry is currently undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation, with the move to the cloud allowing us to reevaluate the way we structure the sector. The transition is creating opportunities to enhance the experience for travelers, while also offering industry stakeholders a chance to drive efficiency, personalization and scalability.

What does this mean for travel protection?

At Amadeus, we are seeking to create comprehensive solutions which cater to all travelers, working alongside partners to enhance our offerings, integrating innovative services and fintech products seamlessly into each journey.

We are catering to evolving expectations by offering more personalized and flexible insurance products. This includes integrating various protection and fintech products that go beyond traditional travel insurance. The focus is on providing comprehensive solutions that meet the diverse needs of modern travelers.

Improved distribution

At Amadeus, we are also working to make these products more available than ever before. We are enabling the worldwide distribution of travel protection to our key customer segments, including airlines, travel sellers and hoteliers.

According to our latest 2024 Global Travel Seller Report , over 50 per cent of travel sellers would consider offering value-added services, including insurance, to their travelers.

However, according to this article in Phocuswire , of all types of content in the travel industry, insurance is one of the hardest to crack in terms of attachment and conversion rates. This is where we, as Amadeus, play a crucial role in tackling this gap.

What does the future look like?

We have been working to improve the travel experience for more than three decades, building better journeys for all. With our move to the cloud, alongside our partners at Microsoft, we are leveraging open-source systems, data, cloud-based architecture and APIs to enhance control for customers and options for travelers.

Our innovation efforts focus on creating a smarter, seamless, and more sustainable travel experience by allowing us to understand traveler behaviors and harness creativity from diverse sources.

When it comes to travel protection, we are developing tools to improve the passenger experience. Right now, we are working on a fully digital claims process that allows travelers to cancel their flights for any reason and receive an automated refund. When fully deployed, this will not only provide peace of mind for travelers but also generate incremental revenue for airlines by retaining the value of tickets and reselling freed-up seats.

Imagine a future where travelers on adventurous trips encountering unexpected events automatically receive refunds, with instant payouts visible in their accounts. By automating the process, we deliver incremental improvements for both sides of the transaction.

Innovative transformation

At Amadeus, we continuously innovate to enhance the traveler experience, working with partners across the ecosystem. To do so, we need to stay close to our partners, customers and travelers and can do by attending key events such as Innovate THIS in London.

We also contribute to industry collaboration, bringing stakeholders together for the benefit of all. For example, we recently launched Amadeus Travel Protection Talks  a panel to discuss the future of travel protection and explore travel trends with key insurance partners and industry experts.

As the travel industry evolves, travelers seek personalized, seamless experiences. Travel protection must adapt, shifting from basic insurance products to comprehensive solutions. Amadeus works with Insurtech companies to provide tailored services beyond simple travel insurance.

Only through coming together as an industry can we create the experiences passengers expect – and increasingly demand.
