Global Impact: our people are the heart of Amadeus volunteer month

I truly believe travel has the power to create positive change for people, places and planet. Our technology serves as a catalyst for that change. But I’m proud to say that our employees are the real change-makers of it all.

This year marked the sixth edition of our Amadeus Volunteer Month, a flagship initiative within our Community Impact program. Thousands of Amadeus employees around the world came together to give back to their local communities. As always, I’m amazed and touched by what we have achieved together.

The results speak for themselves:

  • Over 3,400 volunteers participated
  • More than 80 Amadeus sites across 50+ countries took part
  • We rolled out 280+ Community Impact activities worldwide
  • Almost 200 local NGOs and partners supported

More time and focus on our volunteering opportunities

Volunteering is one of the most rewarding experiences we can all have. To make it easier for everyone to join in, we doubled the number of volunteer hours available per person from 8 to 16. With their admirable passion and dedication, our people rolled up their sleeves and volunteered their time and expertise to generate a positive impact around the globe.

All our volunteering opportunities focused on three strategic themes, which are the backbone of our Community Impact program:

  • Advancing digital inclusion: we promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers, support educational programs to develop digital skills, increase access by donating devices and increase digitalization through our IT and engineering skills
  • Building skills for jobs in the travel industry: we participate in training and mentoring programs to help people develop skills to work in travel and tourism
  • Supporting destinations: We promote the long-term sustainability of destinations by helping people in vulnerable situations cover basic needs and by investing in the environmental preservation of key areas.

Some of our highlights in 2024

We made strides in digital inclusion:

  • We promoted social tech innovation through hackathons. Volunteers helped three NGOs by partnering with Tech to the Rescue. Using our technology skills, they tackled challenges like machine learning and forecasting model development, data anonymization, and donation and transaction management.
  • In Spain, volunteers worked with the Fundación a la Par to make technology more accessible to people with disabilities.
  • In the Philippines, volunteers worked with our long-term partner Food for Hungry Minds to introduce basic HTML programming to students. They also supported disadvantaged kids with STEM subjects, helping improve their education and future opportunities.

We helped build jobs in our industry:

  • In Singapore, we held a career guidance event for 350 young girls in collaboration with Women in Aviation, encouraging them to pursue careers in the field.
  • In Armenia, volunteers organized a 2-day career workshop to inspire girls to work in IT and travel sectors.
  • In Australia, colleagues provided interview and career support to students interested in aviation and travel industries.

We supported the long-term sustainability of local communities and destinations:

  • In South Africa, volunteers addressed basic needs in the community during National Nelson Mandela Day.
  • Across France, volunteers boosted social and environmental impact by supporting eco-tourism on the French Riviera, helping a community center for residents with learning difficulties, and assisting a center that provides housing for families with children undergoing medical treatments.
  • In Colombia, 140 volunteers helped preserve local biodiversity by planting over 800 trees.

But this is only the tip of the iceberg, and I know for sure that there’s much more to come. We are stronger and more impactful when we work together and focus on a common goal, so I look forward to growing our positive impact. Thank you all for being part of the change we want to see!
