“When will business travel recover?” It’s a question on everyone’s mind and one that I’m asked on a near daily basis. And for good reason. The past year has been a virtual “ground stop” for travelers around the world, with devastating consequences across the travel industry, including travel agencies.
“When will business travel recover?” It’s a question on everyone’s mind and one that I’m asked on a near daily basis. And for good reason. The past year has been a virtual “ground stop” for travelers around the world, with devastating consequences across the travel industry, including travel agencies.
It’s no wonder that agency executives are eager for travel to rebound, but it may be a while according to research published in our new eBook, ‘Reboot.Recharge. Rethink Business Travel’, that we are launching today. While 37% of executives surveyed believe we’ll see travel rebound to 2019 levels sometime in 2022, a less-optimistic majority, 46%, think travel will not recover until 2023 or beyond.
Over the past months, we spoke with nearly 100 C-level executives from business travel agencies around the globe to better understand their views on the current situation and factors that will shape the recovery. We also asked about their top priorities, needs, and business strategy to help accelerate it.
Surviving the immediate effect of the global pandemic has been the main priority for business travel executives. While challenges remain, we must also focus on defining a strategy to recover from the crisis and emerge even stronger.
Based onthe insights from these executive discussions, coupled with what weare seeing at Amadeus from our position at the center of the travel ecosystem,we have identified four areas that should be a top priority to reboot, recharge and rethink business travel.
Our joint success will depend on us collectively continuing to identify key areas where we can unlock the barriers to safe and stress-free travel, create great end-to-end travel experiences and restore travel agency profitability while continuing to strengthen the value proposition.
