Keeping this thought in mind, we are extremely proud to share that Couchbase , an award-winning distributed NoSQL cloud database, has recently awarded the Amadeus Loyalty team with the Couchbase Community Award under the Cloud Computing Category. The award was given for the relentless hard work done by the team on a cloud-native modular platform aiming at speeding up time to market and data exchange to better serve customers and partners.
Coherently with our “open, simple and agile” strategy, Amadeus Loyalty solutions are leveraging new cloud-native capabilities from the Amadeus platform to make its airline customers nimbler, consuming data and integrating more efficiently in their existing ecosystems, via faster deployment of new features as well as seamless data exchange with their air and non-air program partners. Through the platform, airlines can deliver better customer experience by – for example – extending their 360 traveler profiles and insights with third parties’ solutions such as Salesforce and Adobe or building new apps to recognize and compensate high value customers in a disrupted flight scenario.
Our engineering team focused on three technological designs of the framework, over two public cloud providers, and compared three different database engines, including Couchbase Enterprise over Kubernetes and Couchbase Cloud. Ultimately, the solution we opted for at Amadeus Loyalty relies primarily on Kubernetes for hosting, Couchbase for storage and event generation, and Kafka for streaming. This technological journey, including benchmarks and discussion on tradeoffs made, will be the subject of another post in this blog.
Thanks to its cloud-native capabilities, Amadeus Loyalty is pushing the limits in three directions: (1) help boost developers’ efficiency to decrease time to market of new features, (2) open the ecosystem to speed up partners on-boarding and (3) provide real-time performance, to influence traveler behavior along the journey. This technical breakthrough has been made possible thanks to a “resource management” API wrapper, powered by a Couchbase event store, customized for speed and streaming events in real time.
