Did you know that one in five people around the world have a recognized disability? Whether it's difficulty with motor skills, seeing, hearing or something else, most of us are likely to experience some issues at some point in our lives.
Unfortunately, most websites and online environments weren’t originally designed with the unique needs of people with disabilities in mind. People navigating the internet and online tools with impaired hearing, vision, cognitive skills, motor skills, and other disabilities face digital barriers that others don’t tend to think about – but it doesn’t have to be this way. That’s why Amadeus is taking steps to make our travel and expense tool,Cytric Easy , more accessible for everyone.
As a guideline for our efforts, we're aiming to meet the requirements laid out by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (or WCAG for short). The WCAG standards are all about ensuring that online tools are perceivable (easy to see or hear), operable (with voice or typing), understandable (with clear and simple language) and robust (compatible with assistive tools for people with disabilities).
To that end, we are continuously working towardsWCAG 2.1 AA compliance for Cytric Easy with the aim of creating an inclusive digital experience for all users, regardless of their abilities.
Steps we're taking include:
Responsive design, so that our websites shapeshift to adapt to the device being used, whether it’s a mobile, a laptop or a tablet.
We’re changing the colour, contrast ratios, and font size to make Cytric Easy easier to read.
We’re changing our keyboard navigation and building proper header structures to make it easier to use.
In addition, we're ensuring that Cytric Easy is compatible with screen readers, which are an assistive technology that renders text and image content as speech or braille output for those who are blind or visually impaired.
We are actively migrating some of our remaining legacy pages to being accessible in 2024. Recently we created a new confirmation page with a revamped design to ensure it is more accessible and responsive.
Finally, to ensure consistent and continuous compliance throughout our portfolio we have setup an Accessibility Center of Excellence team within our division. This team will also be responsible for monitoring the evolution of WCAG guidelines to ensure we remain up to date and relevant.
With these changes, we want to ensure that users with disabilities can still achieve the main tasks in Cytric Travel & Expense, including searching and booking a flight, rail, hotel, car or airport transfer, and filing their expenses.
This year, we´ll also be working with third party auditors to begin an official review of our progress as we strive towards the highest level of compliance possible.
On June 28, 2025, the European Union is mandating that all B2C products be made digitally accessible. Although our online booking tool is not included in this mandate as a B2B tool, we’re committed to helping corporations be more inclusive to make life easier for their employees.
Better accessibility is good for everyone. Whether it´s an automatic door, ramp access, or elevators, everyone benefits from more accessible spaces, and the online world shouldn´t be any different. Amadeus believes that technology should empower everyone, and Cytric Easy is playing its part by taking steps towards digital accessibility.
