In a world of constantly shifting trends and tides, to swim alone is a recipe for trouble. If we want to discover new frontiers, we must band together to build greater ships that can withstand any storm.
That’s the philosophy of theTravel Innovation Club , founded in January 2021, at the initiative of Amadeus along with 10 other travel companies. We are over 30 now, andSteve Kopp, Head of Nexwave Incubation Office at Amadeus , was reappointed Chairman of the Club for 2023. With top travel industry executives and visionaries from companies and organisations spanning the entire travel industry—from distributors and travel sellers to airlines, hotels, airports, ground handlers, innovation hubs, tech start-ups and global software companies—the Travel Innovation Club aims to address critical issues and to identify traveler pain points that can best be addressed when travel ecosystem players join forces to work together.
Through collaboration, the Travel Innovation Club aspires to provide a forum to explore traveler-centric business ideas and create a bold and bright vision for the future of travel: one that is ripe for new business for all players across the travel industry, and more enjoyable for all travelers.
How to foster innovation
The Travel Innovation Group fosters collaboration with quarterly leadership meetings and monthly virtual gatherings to provide members with opportunities to meet, network and identify new business opportunities, and break new ground together. Besides the Club meetings where members are featured as keynote speakers or participate in roundtable discussions, the Club also tackles some topics more in-depth in sessions called Exploration Squads.
As part of these squads, Club members, through providing expert resources, are exploring ideas that are deemed relevant for the industry to address at ecosystem level. This may lead to having Club members, at their sole election, partnering further outside of the Club context to co-define and develop innovative concepts and solutions together.
What our members are saying
Although Club representatives hail from all kinds of backgrounds, everyone seems to have at least one thing in common: they play a key role in their company to foster innovation, and they know they can’t do it alone.
“I joined the Travel Innovation Club in December 2021 and it’s been great to meet like-minded leaders who believe innovation in travel is key and want to move the needle in this area. I particularly appreciate the different forums to learn about new topics, exchange perspectives, pitch new ideas and run exploration squads. This Club is very unique in the travel industry, and I am proud of being one of its Committee members now.”Saad Hammad, CEO of Key Travel
Stuart Greif, Chief Strategy, Innovation & Operating Officer at Forbes Travel Guide, became a Club Member in 2022. He joined the sustainability exploration squad, and participated as jury at the hackathon#1AHACK4SUSTAINABILITY, assessing sustainable travel solutions developed by students.
At the end of 2022, he mentioned:
“I love how much Amadeus is playing a leading role in innovation globally for the travel & hospitality industry, focusing on critical needs not just for today’s problems, but for our future. From engaging with corporate innovation leaders and global travel players, such as myself, to start-ups and leading hackathons with enterprising students from around the world to bring fresh energy and ideas to bear, their leadership is shaping a better travel experience and world for all of us.”
We believe this Club is the right vehicle for all the travel players to identify and address critical issues jointly in the industry. Only by innovating together, will we bring transformational business opportunities for travel!
