With NDC connections on the rise, the travel industry can get a lot more creative in the digital retail space.
Future-proofing digital travel retailing has always been a major priority for Amadeus and the industry. For years we’ve been committed to the standardization ofNDC and the move toONE Order for airlines – two initiatives that can increase revenues, streamline back-office management, and create better, more personalized journeys.
After a tumultuous couple of years in travel, our resolve and determination on these initiatives have only been strengthened. NDC and ONE Order offer the potential for the travel industry not just to meet the needs of the modern digital consumer but to anticipate their future expectations, provide a much better experience, including efficiently managing disruption, and ultimately have that the travel sector lead the way in digital retailing.In other words, with NDC and ONE Order, we can rebuild travel.
That’s why we’re so proud of our recentregistration in IATA’s new Airline Retailing Maturity (ARM) index. The ARM is the first official industry index that measures the progress in air travel retailing and is structured around three key pillars: capabilities verification, partnership deployment, and a value capture compass.
Amadeus is the very first system provider to be dually registered through IATA and its ARM index as both an Airline System Provider and Seller System Provider. These designations are a recognition of our cutting-edge technology and leadership on NDC. They reflect our commitment to collaborating with our airline partners to push travel retailing capabilities, as well as our ability to help travel sellers sell and service NDC airline content. At Amadeus, we’re celebrating this latest milestone as a recognition that we are headed in the right direction to push toward richer, more tailored, and more relevant travel offers in our industry and to speed up recovery.
The transformation of retailing means also a move away from static fare filing to a more dynamic world of offers and orders for airlines. In this respect, Amadeus has been recognized by IATA as offering capabilities on continuous pricing and dynamic price determination – key steps towards creating more dynamic offers.
But ARM registration is just one step in our journey toward better travel retailing. Amadeus is working closely with IATA on its ONE Order initiative to help airlines become more customer-centric and improve efficiency; this will result, for example, in the gradual disappearance of multiple reservation records, as well as e-ticket/EMD concepts. In the future, reservation records will be replaced by one single reference order for customer orders, shared by interline partners, distribution channels, ground handling agents, airport staff and more.
Meanwhile, a lot of change is already underfoot: with almost 5,000 travel agencies in almost 60 markets now able to book and service airline content via NDC using Amadeus solutions, we are well on our way to making NDC-sourced content available to all our travel seller customers around the world.
But if digital retailing is undergoing a massive change, NDC and ONE Order are just the foundation for this evolution. In the future, we envision self-service for disruption (even in cases of interlining, ancillaries or third party content), easier partnerships between airlines and third-party content providers, tailored packages, dynamic pricing, easier settlements and more.
Amadeus is committed to innovation and this registration is another proof point. We sit at the center of the travel industry and continue to drive collaboration among all industry players. Transitioning from the classic and familiar environment to a retail-oriented next-generation one is a sophisticated process and a change in mindset and way of working is needed from both airlines and travel sellers. Working together, we can rebuild travel to be bigger and better than ever before, to deliver value across the whole industry.
