After years of hard work, I am pleased to announce that Southwest Airlines achieved a historic milestone on May 9 with the launch of our new reservation system, powered by Amadeus Altéa.

System benefits

The increased capabilities provided by our new system will not only add tremendous business value, but will better equip our Employees to provide our Customers with the Legendary Service that Southwest is known for. With this system, we will be able to take advantage of enhanced business capabilities, product enhancements, and associated revenue expansion opportunities over time, such as:

  • Schedule optimization (e.g., timing and frequency adjustments)
  • Tools that support international growth (e.g., foreign currency)
  • Operational improvements (e.g., enhanced support for irregular operations)
  • Revenue enhancements (e.g., improved support of ancillary products)

The Company expects the new reservation system to generate approximately $500 million in incremental annual earnings before interest and taxes by 2020 through added functionality and operational capabilities.

I am extremely proud of the joint Amadeus and Southwest Airlines Team who has worked diligently over the last several months, and even years, to bring this major program to life.
