How Finnair is working with UNICEF and Amadeus to ‘Leave no one behind’

Commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility has increased substantially around the world in recent years. We’ve seen that the best results for these priorities can be achieved through cooperation between governments, businesses, associations and citizens to pursue shared goals.

Cooperation and the role of the private sector was also emphasised at the launch of the UN’sSustainable Development Goals in September 2015. The goals guide sustainable development efforts from the present until 2030, and their purpose is to end extreme poverty and achieve sustainable development in all areas, including the economy, human well-being, and the environment.

The foundation for the partnership lies in cooperation. The various participants in society must promote and finance development through their own actions. Government responsibility and the expertise of non-profit organisations cannot be replaced by corporate responsibility projects, but by utilising the competencies and resources of all parties involved long-lasting global results can be achieved.

Partnerships

Finnair and UNICEF have cooperated for 20 years, which makes UNICEF Finnair’s oldest partner. The cooperation entered anew phase in October 2014 when Amadeus added a donation option to Finnair’s online booking engine, enabling travellers to ‘Click for Change’. When booking flights, customers can now donate one, five, or ten Euros to theUNICEF Schools for Asia initiative , which aims to change the lives of children through education in 11 Asian countries. Donations are accepted on all of Finnair’s 37 local websites.

The introduction of the new donation method brings to an end the former practice of collecting cash donations for the Change for Good campaign on year-end flights, but there are still currency donation boxes in Finnair’s lounges at Helsinki Airport and in employee facilities.

We are happy to be part of an initiative that has alreadyraised over €1 million for UNICEF with the help of the Amadeus Donation Engine.

”Leave no one behind” is the UN’s sustainable development theme for the coming years and all of us at Finnair are committed to supporting this theme in cooperation with our partners and stakeholders. We hope you are with us too!
