Amadeus is leading the travel industry in this area, and was recognised by the European Commission as the top investor in R&D in travel and tourism with €660.7 million invested in 2015, and €4.1 billion since 2004. This recognition by the European Commission forms part of its annualEU Industrial R&D investment scoreboard, which examines R&D investment by both European and worldwide companies.

We’re constantly improving the traveller experience through investment in our systems and solutions. One example of this is our commitment to cloud computing and open source technology. We have built a solution to ever increasing flight search volumes with Amadeus Airline Cloud Availability. Earlier this year,Red Hat awarded Amadeusfor our outstanding use of cloud technology.

Amadeus R&D investment

This year we announced Instant Search technology that unlocks the ability to search billions of travel options across multiple criteria – in just a matter of milliseconds – and book the most suitable flight. With United Airlines, we also unveiled a prototype that will allow travellers watching videos featuring exciting places in the world, to figure out where the scene is shot, to research the destination, and add it to their travel wish-list, or even to book a flight on the spot. And more recently, Amadeus won the runner-up 2016 Launch People’s Choice Award for Amadeus Ambient Services at The Phocuswright Conference, showcasing how the rise of connected environments such as smart cars or homes, are creating opportunities to deliver highly contextualized services for the traveller.

The more than 5,000 people who are part of our global R&D team conceive, design, develop and maintain some of the world’s most complex, widely available, real-time information systems. These systems facilitate the movement of millions of travellers around the world and our commitment to R&D investment makes this possible.

I could not be more proud of the very talented Amadeus people that together work to create the solutions our industry and our customers demand.
