We’re creating a more connected travel industry, underpinned by sustainability and long-term investor relations.
Travel is a high-growth industry. That’s good news for our customers, our partners and Amadeus. It’s also good news for the 30 or so start-ups I addressed at this year’s Lisbon Challenge Tourism Day. I had the privilege of speaking to these promising start-ups about the challenges and opportunities for tech entrepreneurs from the point of view of a venture investor and was encouraged by their ambition to really make an impact on the travel and tourism industry.
If you’re not familiar with the Lisbon Challenge Tourism Day – it’s a gathering of 30 start-ups that were carefully picked from 400 applicants. At the event – the start-ups participate in mentoring sessions, workshops, networking events, a hackathon, and prototype events.
Turismo de Portugal (the National Tourism Agency) is one of the main sponsors of the event, and it already has an admirable track record with its three month acceleration program yielding invitations for two start-ups toYCombinator , investment bySeedcamp in seven start-ups, and funding for 40% of the attendee start-ups.
During the event, I talked in-depth about the ‘why’ behind the creation of Amadeus Ventures in addition to the investment criteria and the benefits of working with us. The start-ups in attendance were also eager to hear about our 2014 innovation themes, which include content & the long tail, data lead advertising & personalisation, and trip experience.
I greatly appreciate the opportunity to engage with start-ups and other industry players at events like this and hope to do so even more in the future. You can learn more about our approach, investment criteria, and portfolio by visiting theAmadeus Ventures website .
