Actively supporting the development of the travel and tourism industry is important to us – and this is exemplified by collaborative efforts such as our partnership with the ETC and the European Commission to develop the VisitEurope app.
The UNWTO Awards, which recognise innovation and excellence in tourism, were held at FITUR 2015 recently, and our VisitEurope app, developed in partnership with the European Travel Commission, earned the prestigious Ulysses Award for innovation in research and technology.

This initiative positively impacts the competitiveness of the European tourism sector by giving local destinations and services further visibility, while facilitating their interaction with global consumers in new digital channels like mobile. Travel search can be extremely fragmented, but the VisitEurope app unites inspiration and conversion into one user interface rich with content with an aim to strengthen Europe’s image among long-haul markets and overcome the issue of seasonality through promotional activities.
If you haven’t tried it already – the VisitEurope app for the iPad is an innovative tool developed to help inspire travellers during the process of searching for and planning their travel. The aim of the app is to provide travellers with a mobile tool that enables them to obtain the best information about Europe with the added ability to plan and book their trips. The app guides travellers through the entire experience of the trip, from inspiration, search and planning to sharing.
We are proud to have earned this prestigious award and we feel that partnerships like this can truly help all travel players shape a more sustainable future of travel.
Currently, the application is available globally and has been optimised at an initial stage for the Americas, including Brazil, Argentina, Chile, the USA and Canada, where it is possible to compute the price of long-haul flights to Europe.
