Making the most of mobile payments in travel, beyond the wallet wars

In our new paper, Beyond the wallet wars: Towards a holistic mobile payments strategy, my team has looked into the hype and the fundamentals of mobile payments and offers some guidance to help airlines build a mobile payments strategy that stands the test of time.

Mobile payments is a hot topic right now, with major technology players promoting their wallets and new companies – both local and global – entering the market almost daily. All this creates a practical problem for airlines: which wallet to implement?

 

Where can mobile payments be deployed?

Mobile is driving fundamental changes in the way consumers interact with businesses, and the opportunities to improve the trip experience are enormous. In the paper we present a framework for airlines to think about the various points throughout the trip where mobile payments can be deployed to reach more customers, convert more sales and maintain control over the security and payment experience of their customers. Finally, we summarise the work Amadeus is doing to help airlines make the most of mobile payment technology throughout the customer journey across multiple touch points.

We trust this paper will provide valuable food for thought in the mobile payments space for airlines that are looking to take their business to the next level.
