It’s exciting to see the energy and creativity the start-up community shows for innovation in travel. They were on full display at THack China 2016, which brought together the country’s top developers at Alibaba's beautiful Hangzhou campus, to innovate for travel. For the third consecutive year, the Amadeus API was used to win the competition.
Team Re:World combined augmented reality, wearables, as well as motion and audio sensors to create a new generation interactive guide to significantly improve the traveller experience. The team’s creative, out-of-the-box thinking not only won them the THack competition, but also earned them the Amadeus Creativity Award that we established to celebrate outstanding creativity.
The sponsorship of THack China is just one of our initiatives around the globe that support start-up development. With the vision of building and fostering the leading travel tech start-up community, we’ve launched Amadeus Next in Asia Pacific, leveraging our technology, expertise, customer reach and connecting start-ups with funding. To date, we already have 28 travel technology start-ups on board, including Seatfrog, Triposo, TopDocs and more. We also have a network of 36 partners including Microsoft and Amazon Web Services.
We are really excited to see these amazing ideas and solutions coming from Chinese developers, and humbled that some of the fantastic demos are done on our API. Amadeus has been in China for 20 years, and we’ve seen a great shift in both traveller and technology innovation in China. There’s huge potential for the next major innovation in travel technology to originate from China, and this is why we are so excited to continue supporting innovation in China’s travel technology sector.
