Imagine a traveler setting out on a journey, juggling countless details, from booking flights and hotels to finding the perfect spot for dinner, a last-minute haircut, or picking up essentials at their destination. The process can be daunting, sometimes even overwhelming, as every step requires careful planning and consideration.
At the heart of this complexity lies the need for technology designed for humans, not just machines. Artificial intelligence, hailed as one of the most transformative technologies of the era, is reshaping this landscape. AI is making travel smoother, more intuitive, and ultimately better for everyone.
A strong example of this is our work with Google, where we have been exploring how the latest advances in AI can be applied in real, operational contexts.
Our latest use case combines the power of Google Cloud, Gemini, Google Maps and Amadeus to create more intelligent and hyper-personalized traveler experiences.
In this use case, Amadeus remains responsible for the core recommendation logic and decisioning, while Google Maps is used to enrich results with hyper-local context.
Privacy and data responsibility are foundational to this work. The experience is designed around data minimization and purpose limitation: only the information needed to generate travel recommendations is used, and personal data is handled in line with applicable privacy requirements and customer agreements. Where location context is used, it is provided through appropriate user controls and settings, and we avoid using sensitive personal information to drive recommendations.
Revealed at Google Cloud Next in Las Vegas, we demonstrated what happens when you combine rich travel content with live, hyper-local geospatial data to deliver more relevant and context-aware interactions.
By leveraging Grounding with Google Maps in Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform with Agent Development Kit (ADK), Amadeus can enrich travel experiences with real-time geospatial intelligence. This helps deliver more precise, context-aware recommendations while keeping a clear separation between travel content and any personal information. In this use case, we rely on data minimization principles and use only the necessary signals to generate results, with appropriate safeguards in place to protect data throughout processing.
So, what does this look like in practice for the traveler? In the video below, we follow Paul, a business traveler planning a trip to Nice, France. Gemini proposes an itinerary that combines Amadeus travel content with Google Maps insights to provide relevant options, while ensuring the experience respects user controls and settings and remains aligned with corporate travel policies.
This is a clear example of how Amadeus AI capabilities are being brought to life through AI-powered platforms like Google’s Gemini.
With our role as the system of record in travel, Amadeus can provide authorized access to relevant travel content so it can be integrated seamlessly across platforms like Gemini and Google Maps. This combination of access to trusted data, scale and deep industry expertise helps ensure that AI is deployed in a meaningful and responsible way.
Partnerships are a core pillar of our strategy at Amadeus, enabling us to build a more connected and innovative travel ecosystem. By collaborating with a broad network of partners, we accelerate innovation and ultimately deliver more seamless, end-to-end experiences for travelers.
Google is a long-standing partner of Amadeus. Previously we announced a global strategic partnership to deploy Google Cloud technology and accelerate cloud-based operations and AI innovation across the travel industry. Since then, we have continued to explore new AI-driven use cases, with this being the latest example.
By innovating together, we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in travel. But it is through collaboration with customers across the travel ecosystem that these innovations are tested, refined and ultimately scaled to deliver real impact.
AI has the potential to transform travel when it extends beyond surface-level and is thoughtfully integrated across parts of the travel ecosystem. The focus must shift toward structured, scalable deployment grounded in the realities of travel retailing.
Done right, AI can deliver more seamless and responsible end-to-end experiences that benefit the entire travel ecosystem, and most importantly, the traveler.
We couldn’t be more excited about our partnership with Google and showcasing how meaningful AI can be achieved in practice.
