About Amadeus NDC-X

At Amadeus, we think NDC has the potential to deliver new benefits for the travel industry. This is why Amadeus has created NDC-X, a dedicated program to drive the industrialization of NDC and ensure it works for all travel players. The program brings together all the NDC activities across Amadeus – as an IT provider and aggregator – and focuses on practical use cases of IATA’s NDC standard, in a test and learn approach, in order to deliver improved capabilities for the industry.

The entire travel industry will need to work collaboratively for NDC to truly take off. By working closely together, the industry can unlock new value for travelers, and in so doing, generate more business for all.

What is Amadeus doing to drive the industrialization of IATA's NDC?

What NDC means for airlines and travel sellers

For airlines:

  • For airlines that want to become retailers by putting travelers at the center of everything, NDC is one of the ways they can do this.
  •  With NDC, airlines can further personalize their offers, build loyalty, and increase revenues, allowing airlines to sell more exciting content, and deliver full flight experiences.
  •  Amadeus achieved the level 3 IATA NDC certification as an IT provider in June 2016 and was the first player to renew this certification based on the latest version of the NDC standard, v18.1 in June 2018.
  •  Airlines wishing to work with NDC can use Amadeus Altéa NDC – an IATA-certified product that enables airlines using Amadeus’ Altéa PSS to distribute advanced merchandising offers to third parties.
  •  As part of the NDC-X program, Amadeus is working with airlines such as Qantas and American Airlines to deliver NDC content to travel sellers. This will allow travel sellers to book NDC content alongside other travel content, enabling greater personalization for travelers.

For travel sellers:

  • NDC could bring richer content at the time of booking – more images, information, videos, traveler reviews and also bundles of services.
  • Accessing NDC content alongside other content in one platform will allow travel sellers to serve travelers simply, quickly and accurately, and offer more personalized trips.
  • Amadeus is evolving its travel platform to bring together all relevant content – including air, hotel, car, and insurance – from any source to be distributed via any channel or device, allowing comparisons and bookings to happen in a uniform and transparent way.
  • We’re working closely with our travel seller customers to re-engineer a variety of Amadeus solutions to consume NDC content through the Amadeus Travel Platform.
  • Amadeus will deploy enhanced versions of our leading travel seller solutions, Amadeus Selling Platform Connect and Amadeus Web Services, in 2019 which will integrate NDC and non-NDC content.
  • NDC-enabled solutions will allow airlines to sell their NDC offers to travel sellers, and for travel sellers to shop, order and pay for flights and related services, in addition to servicing bookings, using the NDC standard.
  • Amadeus achieved the level 3 IATA NDC certification as an aggregator in July 2018.
