We are always searching for new solutions in order to shape the future of travel, together with our customers and industry partners. The recent implementation of our first multi-modal solution in Latin America will enable travelers to book their Cubana de Aviación flight and their Viazul (Cuba’s leading bus company) bus tickets through their travel agencies at the same time. This new Amadeus solution will enable a more seamless and connected travel experience for all travelers visiting Cuba from now on.
Jointly with Iberia Systems, we’ve developed a system for Viazul to manage inventories, distribution, issuing of e-tickets and check-in, among other functionalities. The new solution will cover all Viazul bus routes throughout Cuba.
The project will be developed in two stages. The first stage is already in place and includes the implementation of all functionalities and system processes; the provision by Amadeus of basic start-up equipment (local terminals and reservation centre for Viazul); the training of the reservation centre’s operational and technical staff, as well as facilitating access to the system for all travel agencies that are Amadeus customers in Cuba.
The second stage, expected to begin in the first quarter 2015, will involve the distribution of Viazul bus route segments through a code sharing agreement with Cubana de Aviación for all Amadeus travel agencies worldwide.
The development of a multi-modal transport system worldwide has been one of the biggest challenges for the travel industry and this Amadeus solution for Cuba represents one of the first contributions to standardize this distribution facility worldwide.
Being able to develop our new solution for Viazul in Latin America is not only very exciting for us – this distribution facility means that Cuban destinations will be available to international travelers through any travel agency working with Amadeus – but it also means new business opportunities for our customers and industry partners.
