Meet Jill and Simon. They’re a young couple from Perth, Australia who are ‘fly-in fly-out’ workers who are “living the dream”.
Fly-in fly-out, or FIFO personnel as they’re frequently known, are a different brand of business traveller. They are usually employed to work in remote areas, on mining sites for example, and often they’ll work for several weeks at a time followed by an extended holiday.
For Jill and Simon, travel is an immense part of their lives, but it’s not all work and no play! Due to the demanding nature of their job, they like to make the best of their downtime by enjoying 5-star experiences that they take advantage of through special deals. And you know what, when they’re on holiday they expect the ultimate in relaxation and will go that extra mile for luxury conveniences.
But luxury is not their only concern. For Jill and Simon time is of the essence. Since they typically have tight holiday schedules, and they want to make the most of their time off, flight prices are not always the main influencing factor. In fact, they’re willing to pay a bit more if the schedule saves them precious relaxation time. And when they arrive at a destination, they’re open to spontaneous experiences as opposed to pre-packaged ones.
Travel players can learn a great deal from travellers like Jill and Simon as the number of FIFO workers increases in the coming years.
