Thus far, it has been a resounding success with more than 36,000 airline customers donating to support UNICEF’s global vaccination campaign, which has helped to protect the lives of 600,000 infants in Chad. The vaccination campaign as a whole aims to prevent diseases in high-risk countries such as Afghanistan, Angola, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Yemen.
Iberia.com customers have donated more than €200,000 to UNICEF through an Amadeus-powered micro-donation engine in the first year of its launch . The partnership offers Iberia customers an opportunity to make a donation to UNICEF when purchasing air travel online.
Donations increased from €70,000 in the first half of the year, to an extra €130,000 in second half. This is proof of the still unfulfilled potential of using travel technology to help social causes. It further challenges us to build ever more innovative travel technology applications, ones that empower the travel sector to fulfil its transformative potential for good - moving beyond sustainable trips to working small miracles with every journey.
Once again this shows that the travel sector and humanitarian causes can join forces to achieve socially profitable outcomes impossible to achieve alone. We hope to raise further funds in this way and invite all of our travel industry partners to JOIN US in helping children around the world by reviewing this initiative , which is supplied by Amadeus for no cost.
