Though they could not have imagined the incredible progress the aviation industry has made in connecting humanity since their first flight on December 17, 1903 – the Wright brothers set the foundation for modern air travel as we know it.

The Wright brothers' first flight

Their first flight of 120 feet (37 m) in 12 seconds, at 6.8 miles per hour (10.9 km/h) over the ground earned them credit for inventing and building the world's first successful airplane and undertaking the first controlled, powered and sustained heavier-than-air human flight.

Have a look at this fascinating newsreel with footage from the historic occasion in 1903 and let us know who or what inventions are our own modern day Wright brothers in terms of their potential to shape the future of travel.
