We’re creating a more connected travel industry, underpinned by sustainability and long-term investor relations.
Sustainability indices help us assess how we compare to other companies and industries when it comes to sustainability performance. They also help create greater awareness about sustainability, both internally and externally, and identify areas for improvement. This awareness and drive to enhance our performance has led to Amadeus being included on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index in the IT & Internet Software and Services sector for the fifth consecutive year.
Thanks to our comprehensive sustainability strategy, we’ve again earned this prestigious recognition. Knowing that only the top 10% of scorers in each sector are able to enter the index, makes this achievement all the more meaningful for everyone at Amadeus.
The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) are made up of global sustainability leaders based on economic, environmental, and social criteria. They are widely considered the most prominent standards for evaluating sustainability performance available to investors.
In our sector, there are critical aspects that need to be properly addressed to be considered for inclusion in the DJSI. These include, for example, the proper protection of client privacy and secure information technology, effective innovation and knowledge management, or the capacity to attract and retain qualified staff.
In addition, the industry’s main environmental impacts stem from data centre operations and use of office buildings. These can be addressed by continuous investment in more energy efficient data centres and the use of modern and more efficient technology at offices. Moreover, in our case an important sustainability component comes from our capacity to offer IT solutions to help our customers reduce their environmental impact. This is particularly relevant for travel, a relatively energy-intense industry.
While we can reflect on this achievement with pride, sustainability for Amadeus is a journey rather than a destination, and a critical component of our overall strategy.
The travellers that do business with our customers are increasingly including sustainability as one of the factors that influence purchasing decisions. As such, we must support them in this trend by ensuring that our business practices are transparent and that we have a positive impact on society and the environment.
