There is Common Use. And then there is ACUS.

Since we launched Amadeus Airport Common Use Service (ACUS) and our insight paper ‘IT makes sense to share: Making the case for the cloud common use airport technology’ in 2014, we’ve seen the area of airport common use evolve. Cloud-based common use is revolutionising the check-in process and creating new opportunities for stakeholders inside and outside the airport environment. We strongly believe this revolution is and will be driven by Amadeus ACUS.


Close to 1,000 workstations will be implemented by the end of 2016, operating in some 19 airports including Innsbruck, Perth and Oslo. This enable airports to reap the benefits of ACUS, including more flexibility in operations, reduced passenger processing costs for airlines, and reduced CO2 emissions.

As a follow up to our initial paper and customer successes over the past two years, we launched a paper, 8 difficult questions you should ask your current CUTE/CUPPS provider, earlier this year. This paper outlines why ACUS is not just another Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution that offers common use ‘in the cloud’ through the redeployment of onsite servers to an offsite location. ACUS is much more.

Acus Opportunities

With ACUS, airports can gain real business agility by being able to deploy and relocate their operations rapidly to anywhere with a simple 3G connection. Thus, airports are no longer bound to operate Common Use from within the airport facilities. Resilience is increased with improved ability to respond efficiently to any irregular operations and scale up business operations if necessary, all the while reducing reliance on expensive, traditional infrastructure.

Network complexity is also reduced massively. ACUS gives airlines the opportunity to operate Common Use from any ACUS deployed airport without needing individual network connections to each airport. Everything is managed through just a single connection in a centralised environment. To fly to a new airport, an airline can simply ‘turn the tap on’ to enable the airport to access an individual airline DCS, further improving business operational agility with massive reductions in network costs.

Financially, ACUS saves money through new energy efficient hardware with decreased maintenance and on-site support, maintaining the benefits offered by any traditional on site common use provider.
