It was a pleasure to be able to participate in the Amadeus Corporate Travel Network’s fascinating talks, panels and workshops which took place on Thursday and Friday last week. A myriad of industry trends and challenges were discussed and debated amongst those present, and a gathering of 120 industry experts always allows for insightful conversations to take place as much off as on stage.
A clear message that ran throughout the event was the importance of collaboration between corporations, TMCs, and technology providers, in order to be able to meet industry challenges and adapt together to changing environments.. This was particularly clear in the panel debate, “A connected travel ecosystem”, with representatives from Maersk, EasyJet and FCm, moderated by Yolande Norcott, Head of Corporate IT at Amadeus Asia. The discussion highlighted that improved communication, transparency and debate is necessary in order to be able to meet the needs of today’s business traveller.
The role of technology in meeting these needs was also a central element to the conversations, particularly in the opening session with both i:FAO and Amadeus on stage, as Florian Tinnus, the Master of Ceremony and Head of Corporate IT, interviewed Albert Pozo, Vice President, Global Customer Group and Thomas Osswald, Head of Sales at i:FAO. Some of the main topics highlighted were technology’s role in connecting the different elements of the IT value chain, as well as the importance of delivering “simplexity” in the travel process, and customer-centric solutions.
Daniel Sieberg, author of “The Digital Diet” and Google’s Head of Media Outreach, delivered a different perspective to the day as he stressed the importance of the effective use of technology, without which it is impossible to truly work as smartly as we may believe we are doing.
During Thursday afternoon, six technology workshops took place during which we could see and experience some of the latest solutions that Amadeus has been working on, including the end-to-end booking and expense solution Amadeus Corporate Travel & Expense . The workshop showed the strong emphasis on the user experience that is inherent in the solution’s design and functionality.
After a beach dinner in Cannes, and some entertaining teambuilding activities, the talks continued on Friday. A panel discussion, "Have I got news for you" took place with panelists from TeliaSonera, Airbnb, and Amadeus, and with Melanie Garrett, the GBTA’s VP, Business Development, as Moderator. There were also break-out sessions with sponsors and partners to take a fresh look at industry issues and how they can be overcome together. FCm Travel Solutions, Advito, Mondelez International, and American Express Global Business Travel all participated in these sessions, alongside Amadeus experts.
Door2Door, cloud, millennials, business intelligence, travel 3.0 … the event was full of burning industry trends. We hope that our customers, partners and sponsors enjoyed the event and we look forward to continuing the discussions in the months to come.
